Michael Walker, CPM, is the immediate past President of the Apartment Association of Tarrant County, and has been in the management business since 1981. Michael has served in VP positions with Greystar Real Estate Partners, Capstone Management Services, Simpson Housing Group, and DRW Investments, with experience in every facet of managing real estate. Michael also serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Apartment Association, and is a Delegate to the National Apartment Association.
Michael obtained his Certified Property Manager designation through the Institute of Real Estate Management in 1996. Michael was responsible for more than 20,000 units through the South and Southeast US with Capstone, with the majority of the units designated as Low Income Assisted, Section 8 vouchers, and Project-based Section 8 units. Michael has also been responsible for a portfolio of 15,000 units in the Southeast United States, as well as an 18,000-unit portfolio in the Southwestern United States with Simpson Housing.
Michael has served as an expert witness in several litigation cases, and has served as Receiver for several courts involving distressed assets.
Sonya started her career in the multi-family property management industry in 1984 and has spent more than 20 years holding multi-property supervisory, regional training and LIHTC compliance specialist positions. In 2017, Sonya assumed the Vice President of Management Operations position with Walker Holder Residential, Inc. Sonya’s experience in property management has been primarily in California and Texas markets. She oversees the operations of each community with an acute attention to detail combined with an overall "big picture emphasis" in order to encourage consistent productivity through employee empowerment and profitability for clients.
Over Sonya’s business career, she has held positions with Brentwood Properties, Trammel Crow Residential Services, Lexford Property Management and Myan Management Group before joining the Walker Holder Residential team in 2013. Sonya experienced an interim career change between 1994-2003, as an independent business entrepreneur, establishing and operating 2 successful Pizzaria’s in Northern California.
Sonya presently oversees 12 communities in the Dallas/Fort Worth and surrounding areas. Her knowledge and experience in multi-family management consists of affordable housing, receiverships, foreclosures, and stabilized communities ranging in condition from distressed to new construction. She holds the Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor designation (CAPS).
Susie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In 1984, she started her career at Deliotte and Touche (formerly Touche Ross) in their Auditing Department. She worked with a variety of clients within the banking, real estate, non-profit and food service industries.
In 1988, Susie moved to her real estate property management career with Lincoln Property Company. Her focus was preparing tax returns, partnership proformas, plus annual audit reports for multifamily communities primarily located in Southern California. This included working with outside auditors to prepare regular and HUD audit reports. In 1995, she transitioned to Corporate Controller with Merit Texas Properties, LLC, a real estate company, in North Dallas. Her responsibilities included overseeing the accounting and financial operations for numerous multi-family apartment communities and commercial office buildings located in Texas and Oklahoma. She gained experience in new construction, stabilized communities and commercial transactions.
Upon coming to Walker Holder Residential in 2013, Susie further increased her experience in forecloses, receiverships and third party property management. Recently, she has engaged in the implementation of an Investor Management software. She holds the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in the state of Texas.
Veanessa joined Walker Holder Residential in 2011 and has been pursuing her career in the multi-family industry since 1984. She started her career working for The Michelson Organization and moved to Nolan Real Estate Services before joining the Walker Holder team. Veanessa has extensive experience in many positions and sectors of property management to include new construction, acquisitions, renovations, re-positions and distressed assets. She holds the Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS) designation and also earned the designation of Certified Apartment Manager (CAM). In 2012, Veanessa was titled Property Manager of the Year by the Tarrant County Apartment Association.
Veanessa currently supervises 7 properties in the greater DFW area. Her dedication to improve property performance, passion for people and willingness to be vulnerable in challenging situations provides the “can do” leadership her clients and on-site teams respect.
